Where in the world is Jonnie Allan???

That was a question I received in the comments section of this BLOG. And you know what? It’s a great question. So instead of simply posting a reply I thought it better to address as an entire post. There’s a lesson in it that applies to everyone.

First and foremost let me take a moment to apologize for the lack of content. I began Creating Comic Success with the intent of having at least 2 posts a week to help aspiring and professional creators alike understand the marketing side of the industry. As a trusted source for marketing in the comic book world, I take this self-appointed task to provide you with the very best information available very seriously.

Here’s what happened:

Unfortunately, my folks were involved in a very serious automobile accident. Because I run my business from my home I was able to travel to California and be by their side during their road to recovery. As you can imagine, this put me a bit behind. I am involved in many different business ventures all vying equally for my time. Some areas had to be pushed to the side while my attention was needed elsewhere. In other words, regrettably this BLOG had to suffer.

Life gets in the way of life; there is no way around it. No matter how hard we strive to produce the best results and make the most of our time we often find ourselves left wondering where that time went. Too often we feel that everything needs to be done right now. Unfortunately when things arise – as they often do – a sense of dread comes over us as we scramble to finish what we thought was so important. We find ourselves racing to and fro hoping to handle all life throws at us. Sadly we fall victim to the tyrannical reign of urgency. Living our life under the tyranny of the urgent will ultimately yield grave consequences in our businesses, our creativity and most importantly our personal life.

The lesson to be learned here is to slow down. The quality, productivity, efficiency, accuracy, originality and care with which results are produced are of far greater importance than the time it takes to produce them. Expect the unexpected; respond gracefully and confidently when plans, people and projects change. Be willing to devote extra time to compensate for the inevitable consequences of such changes.

Work is only part of our lives. It is important that we prioritize it accordingly.

“The urgent is seldom important and the important is seldom urgent.”
